Communications Internship
Washington’s leading political environmental organization seeks two or potentially three students to join our communications team as interns. As the political voice for the environment, Washington Conservation Voters works to advocate for strong environmental policies and also endorses and elects environmental candidates to office. The communications internship is an opportunity for a student to learn more about political and environmental communications and play an integral role in the organization’s outreach.

As the political voice for the environment, Washington Conservation Voters works to advocate for strong environmental policies and also endorses and elects environmental candidates to office. The communications internship is an opportunity for a student to learn more about political and environmental communications and play an integral role in the organization’s outreach.
The communications intern responsibility will vary depending on the campaign needs and the specific skills of the intern but the following is a general description of the work. There is room for the intern to develop focus areas depending on his/her interests. Though much of the work can be done off site, the intern will be required to work from the downtown Seattle office at least twice a week.
POTENTIAL AREAS OF WORK
Campaigns and elections- Attend endorsed candidate events – assist with photography
- Assist with press release distribution
- Track and clip media around endorsed candidates
- Assist in other campaign activities as needed
New Media Communications: Website and Social Media
Website
- Help maintain and update various portions of the website by tracking appropriate news stories, posting them and monitoring traffic. (training will be provided)
- Find other websites that can link to Washington Conservation Voters and develop relationships to establish those links.
Social Media
- Maintain the online presence for Washington Conservation Voters on Facebook and manage ongoing communications with Facebook members around key events, volunteer opportunities etc.
- Track environmental and political blogs and look for opportunities to further Washington Conservation Voters campaign plan through these venues.
- Work closely with the Communications Manager to develop strategies for You Tube and establish a Washington Conservation Voters You Tube channel.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Capacity to work quickly and on a variety of projects.
- Knowledge of websites or willingness to learn and interest in helping build and maintain website content.
- Passionate about building networks and using social media and a willingness to use that passion for environmental communications.
- Interest in environment and politics.
- Ability to work in Adobe Photoshop/In Design and Illustrator a plus but not required.
